Kalat has a BRAIN! Yay!

Things I found interesting in reading my psychology textbook:

1. A Nymphomaniac is "someone who wants sex more than you do!" -kinsey
So, people always assume that they are the baseline for normal when asked questions about sex or gender or themselves. Hm.

2. The statistics that 39% of gay men and 48% of lesbians are depressed, and so, "...because most homosexuals are mentally healthy, psychologiests and psychiatrists consider homosexuality to be a natural variation in sexual motivation." Now THAT is very intersting. I wonder what the statistics are for heterosexuals? More depressed? Less? Though it is nice to hear that there really IS some scientific thinking behind NOT-discriminating against people of a different sexual orientation. Evidently it can be INFLUENCED by genes, but is not directly correlated to be caused by genes. Hm.

3."Emotions are inseparable from the idea of good and evil. Good decisions make people happy and evil causes unhappiness. If you can't imagine happiness, you are likely to make terrible decisions." So, good ol' Spock would really have been somethig akin to a serial killer in his lack of response to emotion. Or at least, his Prefrontal cortex in his brain would be stunted....or ignored. EEEyikes. Too MUCH emotion harms decision making in a rational manner, but SOME emotions are needed for a decision-making process. So don't throw them out the window completely, peepz!!

I like my Psychology text book. Perhaps I should consider actually BUYING it....such a slacker am I. Ah well, gotta go read my spanish. TAH!
